In Lauderdale down in the south
A bad man once was caught
With flowing hair, a silver mouth
Unheedful of what his mother taught
He didn’t think ‘bout wrong and right
He cared for nothing in this life
He never ran when he could fight
He lived for violence and strife
They picked him up, they locked him down
They threw away the key
Such an evil man as him
They’d never set him free
They say the Alabama womenfolk
Have hearts as big as wheels
And Vicky laid her eyes on him
When she brought his prison meals
She saw the good in him, she thunk
As she looked at his big frame
And as he slid down from his bunk
He asked about her name
He looked at her with soulful eyes
He said: Vicky, please believe me
What they’re sayin’ is all lies
You gotta help me to be free
One day in spring she got him out
They ran away from Lauderdale
He said he loved her, yes he did
And didn’t look back at that county jail.
Oh Vicky, what’cha doin’s wrong
Don’t throw your life away
Don’t let that killer’s silver tongue
Lead your heart astray!
You got the marshalls on your tail
The bloodhounds’re out to get you
They gonna throw you both in jail
And that’ll be the end of you
Oh Vicky what’cha doin’ now
Don’t let that bad man fool you
He pulled you in, he’ll spit you out
And now they’re comin’ for you too
